RIDGE-MEADOWS RCMP CITIZENS ON PATROL
Keeping Watch
Citizens On Patrol are a group of citizens that hold a concern for the crime in their local area and are willing to offer their time to assist the local RCMP in keeping community safe. There are over 60 volunteers in the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows area who are responsible for actively observing and reporting suspicious or criminal activities or situations. The West Coast Auto Group appreciates the opportunity to continue supporting them for more than a decade.
Successful crime reduction is a noticeable by-product of the local Citizen On Patrol volunteers as they patrol the streets in either personal or marked vehicles, with the occasional foot patrol. Personal vehicles offer a discrete "eyes and ears" observation, while marked vehicles help to deter crime from happening in the first place. The volunteers do not come into direct contact with offenders, but simply report activity to local police stations. Participants are given access to a VHF radio to report suspicious activity to a local police as well as are able to access the ICBC Stolen Auto Recovery Program web site to check suspicious plates to determine of they were stolen.
Combining a love for the community and a desire to help keep it safe, Citizens On Patrol provides a valuable contribution of monitoring and reporting.
